Goal, Grit, Gratitude, Growth are Keys to Success
“A gift consists not in what is done or given, but in the intention of the giver or doer.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca
Goal seeking, ownership and determination are the keys to success. For your growth and success in career, you should have well thought of goal. Once the goal is set, you must plan and coordinate all efforts to achieve your goal within the allotted budget and time. As a team leader/manager you should be specific while assigning the jobs to team members so that you can hold them accountable. Likewise, while dealing with vendors/sub-contractors, suppliers and channel partners, you must discuss in specific terms instead of generality. Instructions should have no ambiguity so that job is done as per specifications. Your success and career growth is linked to the success of your team and your contribution towards supporting the goal of your seniors. Some points related to success are given in the following sections in alphabetic order:
•
Gain knowledge. As
you progress in your career/job, you should continue to gain more experience, knowledge
and confidence. It is ever true – “No gain
without pain.” and
therefore must work hard to be first time
right.
• Gift Out life
is the biggest gift from God and we must live purposefully helping the needy.
Exchanging gifts among friends, relatives and family reflects goodwill and strengthen bonding.
•
Giver.
As we progress the corporate ladder, we must be a giver to support peers and
juniors so that they could perform to excel in their job. While giving
something to someone, do not remind him/her about your contribution. Be happy as a giver and do not expect anything in return.
• Goal seeking.
You must have a vision and goal so that you can define your Key Result Areas
(KRAs) and remain committed to achieving that. Once you have your goal set, do
not waiver for any distraction.
• God is with you.
God always answers prayer, if done sincerely. When most of the hopes seem going
away, just sit in a comfortable posture, close your eyes and sincerely pray to
God and He will soon come to your help in some form. Keep full faith in God and
miracles do happen. He is with all of us when we are awake or in sleep or in
pain, or in happiness.
• Goodness begets Goodness. Often people look for good people and leave the bad ones.
You can’t replace people at will and you are to adjust and co-exist. Therefore
it pays a lot more to find good aspects in people and ignore the bad in them since no one is perfect. To succeed, do good, see good, hear good, speak good,
think good, and you will notice goodness prevailing all around boosting your
success.
•
Gratitude. We
must express our sincere gratitude for God’s unlimited gifts to us. You should
also be grateful and proud of your organization. Your team will follow you. Be
always grateful to your parents as they continue to do so much for you.
• Greetings.
It is good manners to greet each
other whenever we meet –seniors, peers and juniors. It brings happiness and
creates a good work environment, where you too will flourish. Similarly, you
should greet your family members and friends as that will also improve your
home environment and enhance your productivity at the workplace. Try wishing good
morning and say “bye-bye” to family members while leaving for the workplace and
give a hug to young ones and elder members. Your mood will change and you will
drive your vehicle well to your workplace and even behave well with team and
others. Likewise, on returning from office, say hello and/or give a hug to the
family members who have waited for you, the whole day long. It will cost you
nothing but will change your life both at home and at the workplace,
• Grievances.
As a team leader, listen to the
grievances of team members and resolve those peacefully. Take help of your
seniors when needed. However, do not express your grievances in public or in
presence of your team. At the first stage, you should discuss with your immediate superior
and do not bypass him/her and approach the top.
• Growth.
We all need fast growth and success
in our career. To achieve that, one should remain up-to-date in skill areas and
consistent in performance. Your growth depends upon how well you lead your team
and gets the best out of them. Always keep focused to achieve organizational
growth and your growth will be automatic.
• Guide.
You must guide your team,
enabling all members to perform well in their assigned tasks. There will be
always a few bright stars in your team and they must be guided and encouraged to
innovate and excel. You too can have a guide or mentor who inspires you to rise
in your
career.
