Ride Technology Wave for Career Success

My New Book --- Ride Technology Wave for Career Success

Today, we are living in the 21st century, with fast-developing #technologies, #digital economies, a #knowledge society and global #uncertainty. Rapid technological advances have provided us means to explore beyond our own country and improve our #productivity, #quality, #speed of travel, #decision-making and #lifestyle. Technologies have been causing #disruptions and #displacements of jobs. However, new technologies also create new jobs which of course require new #skills, more #multi-tasking and efficient use of resources. This scenario demands continuous #learning, early #adapting of newer technologies, #innovating products and processes through #creative #thinking and #networking.

The old concept of joining a company and slowly growing in it until your retirement is no longer valid today. Instead of # employing, #training, providing job #stability and drawing #loyalty toward the employer, #iring for #time-bound projects and #firing when found #redundant is becoming a common feature. Both the employer and employee want the best out of each other and for you; it is #"survival-of-the-fittest". Each one of us is going through the process of acquiring professional #education, acquiring new skills and working hard to have stability and #growth in our job. Likewise, each employer is looking for highly competent, #multi-skilled, #innovative and #creative #professionals, who are easily adaptable to multi-tasking and fast-changing technology environment. You are to be alert and look out for #opportunities to switch your job, at an appropriate time, rather than sticking to the #traditional jobs. You are to actively manage your career by #learning new skills and enhancing your #visibility through #networking and #knowledge #sharing.

Covid-19 has forced people to stay away from workplaces, public gatherings, socializing, going to academic institutions, shopping malls /centres, entertainment/ sports centres, travel or hotels. Consequently, there has been a great loss of jobs and some employers are forcing their employees to work from their homes. The world around us is highly #interconnected, #interdependent, and #uncertain, where marketing is global, operating on a 24x7 basis and throughout the year. Geographical boundaries of countries have disappeared and #time #zones have become an advantage for global business. Indeed, we are coexisting and cooperating in one global village, which is #complex, demanding, #dynamic, speedy and full of #challenges. The education systems are finding it very hard to keep pace with the market demand of young professionals who are #multi-skilled in new technologies, highly productive and billable from day one. Due to Covid-19 (pandemic), demand for a technology/skill-based workforce has greatly increased. Consequently, there is a need to align higher/professional education institutes and even vocational education institutes to evolve their academic curriculum more aligned to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (#STEM). The new learning-teaching process will require more innovative and creative thinking, to quickly develop highly reliable business solutions for various products and services.

Classroom teaching in #face-to-face mode and supervising students has shifted to #ZOOM, Google Class Room and Moodle-like technologies, for imparting education in #virtual #mode from primary school to university level. Today a teacher has to be a very innovative and technology expert in delivering #academic #curriculum online. The teacher also has to carry out an online assessment/ evaluation.

The technology #revolution (Industry Revolution (#IR4.0) is moving much faster than predicted by various experts like Moor. The technocrats, IT professionals and #Data-Scientists are already impacting us, whether at home or at the workplace. #Automation of office work, #Manufacturing, #Process Control Industries, #Material handing plants, #Warehouses, and #Construction sites continue to take away many routine jobs. #Robotics, #3-D printing, #Drones, #Embedded software technologies, #Cloud Computing, #Big Data, #Artificial Intelligence (AI), #Machines Learning (ML), #Internet of #Things (IoT), Blockchain, #Virtual Reality (VR) and #Augmented #Reality (AR), #5G networks and #Cyber #Security continue to impact areas like #diagnostics and surgical procedures, medical #record-keeping, improving #productivity, #quality, accuracy and scope of analysis and interpretation. Likewise, #Digital Marketing, #Mobile communication, Video conferencing, Smartphones, Social Media, and Pre-fab construction technology are disrupting many jobs. These impact our #health, #lifestyle, #relationships, business #alliances, work environment, and career #growth. Technology is #disrupting human-intensive jobs as well as creating smarter jobs, though needing newer skills.

The survival mantra is quick learning of new skills and early adoption of emerging technologies. There is an urgent need to change our technical #education system from the traditional skills building in #STEM (#Science, #Technology, #Engineering and #Mathematics) to #DICE (#Design-Thinking, #Innovation, #Creativity and #Entrepreneurship). This needs a shift in education #policies of the government as well as an initiative by the industry to work together and create a knowledge #workforce that easily adopts new technologies and gives a boost to the national #economy.

The goal of this book is to provide #jargon-free, compact and #easy-to-grasp material for young minds and show them the #pathway to traverse and sustain their chosen career during fast-changing technologies and global competition. This book will help you to take control of your current job and be ready to grab emerging opportunities needing newer skills. This will equip you for easy to #switch jobs and stay competitive and achieve your professional goals. It will be a handy reference/guide for students undergoing professional studies, business executives, team leaders, managers and teachers/professors, having 3-15 years of service. They will be able to re-assess them and “build themselves above themselves”, to stay relevant to the organization.

Buckminster Fuller The technology revolution sweeping across the globe at a great speed is also termed as a 4 th  Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0 (Short form I4.0).
