Timing, Teamwork, Trust, Training, Testing, and Transparency help
to succeed
·
Tactful. You
should be tactful while dealing with customers, vendors, sub-contractors. Being
blunt and outspoken does not go well always. As you gain experience and
maturity, you will learn the art of being tactful during any negotiation.
· Tackle. A good
manager/ team leader can tackle any issues which may crop up during an assigned
project. They say- “A stitch in time saves nine”. A good manager tackles
various conflicts tactfully and maintains a healthy work environment.
· Talent. A talented and trustworthy manager draws
synergy among peers/team. Talent is not an academic qualification but applied knowledge
in the form of talent/skill that leads to success in any job you may undertake.
One should endeavor continuously to develop and improve one’s talent.
·
Tamper. Never allow others to tamper with the results
of any outcome. It is the integrity of all teams, to be honest, upright, and
accept the outcome as it comes. Any
attempt to tamper with results will lead to presenting false (untrue) data
which can result in poor/ wrong decisions.
·
Tangible. It
is easier to evaluate benefits from a tangible outcome. However, it could be very
important to consider intangible benefits also.
·
Target. Select
your target carefully and then go with concentrated energy to achieve it. In the
current global market, you are to decide your target as Key Result Area (KRA)
and ensure that you meet it. In many organizations, reviews and promotions are
linked to targets set and achieved.
·
Task. While breaking
down a project into many smaller tasks,
the project manager should allocate tasks as per the competency of the team
members and the resources available. As the tasks get completed and tested, these
should be progressively integrated and
retested to evolve sub-systems and finally the system.
·
Taunt. Your
communication within the team should be firm, clear but using polite words. A
team manager should not speak as if he/she is taunting the team members. Taunt could be taken as sarcasm
which hurts others and affects the relationship.
·
Team-Work. Be
a useful member of your team and assist others to perform well. It is always
team decision and team effort which leads to success. Look after your team and
assist them to perform well. Encourage them to learn new skills and boost up
their competence.
·
Technology. Fast-moving
technologies necessitate all of us to learn and share emerging technologies to
remain current and relevant. You should be technology savvy to get the best of
your time and effort. Internet, Digital marketing, Online ticketing. Online
education, 3-D Printing, ICT, and mobile communication devices like a smartphone,
testing tools, and instruments have given new opportunities for businesses to
grow. You should be ready to adapt to emerging
technologies and add more value to your business.
·
Tenacious. In today’s cut-throat market and global uncertainty due to
internal /external factors, you got to be tenacious and show high resilience.
There will be some difficult situations and you must stay resolute and carry on
with missionary zeal.
·
Tension. A good work environment should be tension-free. There should be a cordial relationship among all team members. As a
manager, you should be closer to the team members and remove any tension which
maybe due to some misunderstanding, domestic worry or and other uncertainty.
·
Tenure. During any
tenure in any position in any organization, you must put in your best efforts
and show full integrity. A longer tenure
helps to gain hands-on knowledge and valuable experience. Tenure should be of 2
or more years as that indicates your maturity and professional integrity.
·
Testing. What
you design a new product or prototype it, that must be well tested to validate
as per international standards or specifications as given by the customer. Any
deviation should be corrected. Testing should be done both at the component level,
sub-assembly level, sub-system level, and system level.
·
Thankful. Thanking
someone does not cost much. It is a curtsey that opens the door for communication in the future. Make it a
habit to thank at least 2–3 persons every day and you will get inner happiness
and better strength to do well. This will assist in expanding your social
circle and networking
·
Theme. Whenever you deliver a lecture or write an article/ book, do
not deviate from the main theme. It is essential to remain focused, coherent, and have a logical flow of your
communication.
·
Theory and Practice. As
a professional, you must possess good theoretical as well as practical
knowledge of the subject. Without theory, one cannot explore other options and
without practical experimentation, one cannot be sure of the outcome. That is
why we need young and bright engineering graduates/postgraduates to score well
in theory and also gain expertise in the practical handling of equipment, tools, and instruments.
·
Thinking out-of-the-Box. As a manager/team leader you are to be creative, sincere, and
thinking out of the box to evolve new cost-efficient solutions. Traditional
thinking will not help in innovating new products/ services.
·
Thorough. As a professional, you must be thorough in
your subject. That will provide you with confidence in communicating and
monitoring teamwork. You will get appreciation from seniors and team members
too.
·
Thoughtful.
It is a good culture to be thoughtful of
birthdays, Wedding Anniversaries of your seniors, teammates, friends, relatives, mentors, and
teachers They all will be happy and thankful on receiving your greetings. This
ensures good bondage and respect
·
Thrust. While
building your career, you should identify your strengths and weak points. Make
a plan for your trust area where you want to excel and showcase your
excellence.
·
Time Management. In
today’s uncertain and competitive market, time is the most important resource.
Manage your time well and at times, do multitasking. You may have to spare time
for children, elders and also for friends. You need to first give priority to
the organization/job, second to family, and last to your friends.
·
Tireless. A leader should exhibit how he/she can tirelessly work for long hours to support
his/her team and fulfill the aspiration of customers as well as seniors. Mental
resilience is needed more than physical stamina.
·
Tolerate. Tolerance improves
relationships. As a manager, you need to be patient
and tolerant while dealing with issues that team members may be facing. As you
become a senior and mature professional, you should be more tolerant of the minor
mistakes of your teammates.
·
Tomorrow. Tomorrow
never comes. It is well said- “ Do not
put off till tomorrow what you do today
and what you can do today, should be
done right now”
·
Touchy. It good to be observant and monitor the
work of your team but one should not be touchy on smaller issues. It is good to
differentiate major work being done and need not be touchy on trivial issues.
·
Tough. When the going gets tough, the
tougher will succeed. The weaker will get shaky and may quit.
·
Track. During any project work or time-bound task, one should
closely monitor teamwork and carry out in-process control. It is most important
for a team leader to respond appropriately to any contingency and ensure the project/
task is always on track.
·
Traditions. In a country like India, there are many religions, customs, and
traditions. People often celebrate in groups. As a manager/ team leader you
must respect everyone's traditions /customs and join in their traditional celebrations.
·
Trends. Always
keep in mind emerging trends in technologies, business practices, and government
policies. Follow technology and job trends
reflected on websites, newspapers, and magazines.
·
Training for Competency. You should regularly train yourself in emerging technologies
and management techniques. We are living in an information age that is rapidly
changing. Likewise, you should facilitate the training of team members by
arranging workshops, seminars, and conferences for them. In military terms, they
say “ Those who train hard during peace, bleed less in war.”
·
Transform. There
may be few fresh intakes in your team. You must organize workshops and
brainstorming sessions to transform them into a unified and highly productive
unit. It is a slow process but very important, where all members of the team get on the same frequency.
·
Transparency Builds Confidence. Be transparent to your team and they will trust you and most
willingly support you to succeed.
·
Trouble Shooter. One
should be a problem solver and not a problem erector. Likewise, be a
troubleshooter and not a trouble creator
or trouble informer.
·
Trump-card. In a team, you must identify high performers
and use them as trump cards to solve difficult problems.
·
Trust. In the eyes of seniors, customers, vendors, and teammates you must be trustworthy.
They should be able to bank on you and expect good services. Trust brings
success to all parties.
·
Truth. Do
not tamper with any data or hide or blow up facts. Always tell the truth. In
the long run, truth prevails, and lies get caught.
·
Try, Try and Try. You
may get disappointed if you fail in your task, but you would have learned
something to improve and try again. However, if you do not try, you will remain
ignorant of what is in it. Therefore try,
try and try again till you succeed.
·
Turning Point. During
your career, you will come across a turning point when you may change your line
of business, the field of education, and go for your passion or where a better
future lies. At this stage of your career, be determined and do not waiver or
get distracted. If you take a timely and right decision, it will be a lifetime
joy for you.
·
Tutor. As a team leader,
one must be a good tutor to teach new skills to the teammates. If need be one
should engage tutors from outside the university/college or industry to boost up
knowledge and productivity of the team.
