“Yearning for Impossible and Yielding to accommodate Assures Success”
We all yearn for the success and
comfort of life. We also like to look and feel younger than our age. Life is
like sailing through a sea, where you
can’t change the direction of the wind but can adjust yacht strings and stay
on course. Many times while dealing with a customer or a vendor, you should
know when to say Yes or No and when to yield to accommodate and strike the
deal. However, you should take decisions on the merits and not get influenced
by hearsay or pressure from others. Salient
points which can help in speedy success are given below in alphabetic order:
·
Yacht. While sailing in a yacht to cross the
sea, you can‘t change the direction of the wind, but you can surely adjust yacht
strings to keep it on course and reach your destination. Life is also like a sea voyage where there are many ups and downs
and sometimes stormy weather. You
should be adaptable to any emerging situation to sail through safely and happily.
· Yak. We can learn
a lot from a Yak who is a very sturdy and reliable load carrier in the
mountains. Yak is found in the mountains and snowbound areas. It is like a
camel in the desert or a mule in mountains used for load carrying in higher
ranges of mountains and snowbound areas. It can be easily domesticated
for load carrying and milk purposes. We can learn a lot from the
life/behaviour of a yak. While operating in high altitudes of the Himalayas.
·
k Yardstick for Success. Different stakeholders may use different yardsticks to determine
the success of a project /mission. For you, success is the satisfaction of
the customer as well as your senior/management. Both you and your team
must use an appropriate yardstick to ensure quality while measuring own performance
or when dealing with vendors/suppliers/sub-contractors.
· Yes or No. To say “Yes, it
will be done”, is being positive in attitude. It should become your habit to
accept additional responsibility willingly and say yes to any task being assigned.
At the same time, you should not be seen as “Yes-Man” or “Yes-Woman” to the
boss as that will erode your own individuality and status in your team. At
times, you are to be firm and say NO to any distraction or red hearing from
your team members and keep the project on track.
· Yearning. It is the inner
fire that makes one yearn for new targets and challenges. You should be seen
as a seeker of new responsibility. You need to be exploring/yearning for
learning new skills and evolving new solutions /products.
· Yesterday. Yesterday’s
events are the past and any slippage or mistake is to be forgotten/forgiven.
However, lessons learnt from past events are to be remembered for future
improvement. Any weakness of yesterday is to be quickly made up and a new day
must start with new energies and greater enthusiasm.
· Yield. You should not
yield under pressure but take action on merits without any prejudice. Likewise,
fulfil your commitment and yield good results as promised. Sometimes you should
knowingly yield to strike a business deal or maintain harmony at the workplace
or even at home. However, remember good old saying -,
“Great things are
not accomplished by those who yield to trends, fads and popular opinion.”– Jack
Kerouac
· Yoga. Yoga is good old
Indian naturopathy practised by sages since Vedas Times say over 4000 years
ago. Of late, yoga has become a global phenomenon for healthy and happy living.
Many corporate houses have formally established yoga centres within their
office premises, where all employees have free access to it. While doing yoga,
there is no medicine /drug being administered but only body organs are
exercised in a natural way. It helps to keep you healthy and more productive.
· Yoghurt. It is a milk
product and of great medicinal value in our food. Yoghurt (curd) is a popular
food all over the world. Yoghurt should be part of your morning
meal.
· Young Mind. For enhancing the productivity of any organisation, we need young minds who are open, energetic
and can think out of the box for evolving sustainable solutions.
· Young People. It is good to keep
the company of young people to feel Younger and energetic and achieve Success. In
addition to keeping closer to seniors and mature people, you should also keep
the company of young people to feel young and energetic. This will help to
mitigate the generation gap and you remain updated with the younger workforce.
· Yours. To build good
relations, always use the word “yours” more often than use the word ‘mine”.
Saying all yours is taken as your magnanimity and way of building mutual trust/
relationships.
· Youth. The healthy,
well-educated and disciplined youth of today is the future of a nation. They
are the nation builders as Managers, Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Designers,
Innovators, Agriculturists, Industrialists, Administrators and Politicians. The
government and the society must care for their youth for the growth of their
Nation. Give them opportunities and resources and they will rise to the
occasion to complete their assigned task with missionary zeal.
