Unity, Understanding, Upbeat, Unanimity and Unbiased decisions ensure Success
“Where there is unity there is always victory.” – Publilius Syrus
Today, the only thing certain is uncertainty where domestic and global pressures are continuously impinging our business environment as well as our lifestyle. Technologies and global business strategies are changing rapidly and so are the rules and regulations for migration. Since Jan 2019, many corporates have been seriously affected by Corona Pandemic, resulting in job cuts and Working From Home (WFH). New challenges are emerging almost every month, and you need to readjust your strategy. As a team manager/leader you need to be understanding, unbiased, upbeat with high competency to unify your team into a well-knit unit. Some salient points which can help you achieve early success are given below:
·
Unacceptable.
Make sure that the product/service you
offer to your customer is as per declared standard, Any product which is
unacceptable to the customer will require rework, increase in cost, and loss of
your credibility.
·
Unambiguous.
Your instructions to your team must be simple and unambiguous leaving no room
for any misinterpretation. This ensures that your team members fully understand
the requirement and they will perform as per your plan, This will avoid any
rework or delay in completing the assigned task.
·
Unanimous Decision. Always work to get a unanimous decision during team meetings but be
prepared to accept the majority decision.
·
Unbiased. As
a manager/team leader you should be unbiased in giving your opinion and
decision making. Each teammate is a valuable asset to you and a contributor to
your success. Look after them and be equally accessible to all.
·
Uncertainty. We
are living in a world of turmoil where the only certainty is uncertainty. When
corporates are threatened, jobs get threatened too. Due to economic crises or
changes in business/financial policies of the domestic or foreign market, the
first cut comes on manpower. Therefore be prepared for change and have your
CV/portfolio improved regularly.
·
Unconditional Loyalty. Do not bargain for loyalty since loyalty comes from within
when you love your job. Always give and expect unconditional loyalty. This
employs while dealing with seniors and team members. Always speak good about
your organisation and team, whether
inside or outside the organisation.
·
Underplay. Be
positive in your thoughts and any minor abrasion must be underplayed and not
blown out for others to take advantage of. Praise your team at the top of your
voice but correct their mistakes quietly.
·
Understanding. You
need to understand the situation and respond appropriately. Misunderstanding
leads to friction or gaps while understanding people brings harmony and higher
productivity. As a manager/team leader, you must understand the potential of
each member and his/her personal as well as administrative needs. You should
also understand their home problems, particularly, of young working mothers as
to how they manage young children and be on time for the job. Encourage young
working mothers to work from home, at least 2 days a week.
·
Unconstitutional. You
should neither do nor accept anything unconstitutional. Always follow the rules
and revaluations of the organisation as well as those laid down by the
Government or and higher authorities.
·
Underestimate.
If you put up a proposal for a project with underestimated cost, you will incur
a loss for the organisation. Never underestimate your opponent and face him/her
firmly.
·
Unfair. Do not
permit the use of any unfair means in your team. Honesty is always the best
policy. Likewise, do not allow unfair means by students during their
examinations.
·
Unfaithful. A
faithful employee with even lesser competency is a more valuable asset for the
organisation than a very competent but unfaithful person. Likewise, be faithful
among family members and friends. An
unfaithful person will soon get detected and branded as a bad asset. To maintain
good discipline/work culture, unfaithful employees should be shown the door.
·
Ungrateful, Be
always grateful o your parents who have done so much for you and the teachers who
have given you an abundance of knowledge to rise in your career. Likewise,
always be grateful to God who has given life and wisdom to you for living a
purposeful and happy life. An ungrateful person is not respected by any and
will lose friends. He/she will get isolated and have very little or no support
from others.
·
Unfounded. Do
not entertain unfound information which may be hearsay or deliberately planted
to mislead you, Always verify facts and then take the decision.
·
Unity. The
real strength lies in unity in thinking, decision making and action. Unity
brings synergy and optimal use of resources.
·
Union. Do not form or allow any sort of union in your
organization. Although lawful labour unions are allowed in big organisations,
they must follow the rules/law.
·
Unique.
God has created each one of us as a unique person. Therefore you must strive to
evolve something unique. Common events keep happening as a routine. You are to
have a unique talent/trait which is liked by most. Always have your Unique
Selling Point ( USP) to win an audience.
·
Unilateral. Do
not take unilateral decisions as that becomes an authoritarian approach. In a democratic
environment, always seek advice from seniors, mentors, and inputs from
teammates.
·
Unpleasant.
There should be a healthy and happy work environment. You must avoid any
unpleasant conversation among team members as well as with seniors. since that
will affect relationships.
·
Unnecessary.
Always follow discipline, commitment, and your work schedule. There should be no
unnecessary conversation or activity in your workplace.
·
Unemployed. Always
keep your CV up-to-date with new skills.
You should be on the lookout for a job. Sitting
unemployed at home will be frustrating for you and worrying for the
family,
·
Unity. Unity is the key to team success.
When each member contributes to the common goal, a lot can be achieved. It is ever true – “ United we stand,
Divided we fall “.
·
Upright. If you are upright and upfront, your team
will equally vibrant and committed to the task.
·
Unrealistic. You
must allocate tasks as per the capability of the individual and the team as a
whole. The targets set by you should not be unrealistic.
·
Unsafe. It is your
prime responsibility to ensure that the workplace for your team is safe. Unsafe
buildings, equipment, machinery or tools can cause injury to the workforce and
they will be scared while working
·
Unstable. Stability
in the job, structure or a process is necessary for building trust/confidence,
·
Unsatisfied. The
customer, suppliers, channel partners should be fully satisfied as per your commitment.
Even a few unsatisfied customers will spread wrong feedback about you and your
organisation and that will impact market image.
·
Upbeat. As a team leader, you must stay upbeat during any adverse
situation. Keep the team cheered up
to overcome a difficult phase in any project.
·
Upgrade. All
machinery depreciates with time and need repair and maintenance. At some stage,
it needs to be upgraded. Likewise, you must periodically upgrade your skills by
attending workshops and taking certified courses for acquiring new skills.
·
Urge. Each
Professional should have an urge to remain up-to-date in skills and commitment.
This helps in excelling in your performance and shining among team members.
·
Urgent. You must
appreciate the urgency of a situation and adjust your work schedule. It is
important to do first thing first but there can be a situation needing urgent
attention and appropriate response.
·
Usefulness.
As long as you serve an organization, remain fully committed to the job, and
show the usefulness of your position and actions. You should always be an
important asset to the organization.
·
Utilization.
As a team leader plan your resources for maximum utilization and minimum
wastage.
Your biggest resource is time and which should be carefully utilised for
maximum return.
